NetModule AG is a leading manufacturer of routers for industry 4.0, transportation and traffic with a focus on robust communication. Aiming to improve customer service and relationships beyond router sales, they conceived a new digital service offering based on an IoT solution.

Challenge

After purchasing their routers, NetModule’s customers had to take care of managing their routers themselves. With growing sales, manual handling and configuration became more difficult. An automated solution was needed to simplify the task of managing a large number of devices in the field.

How we got there

The objective was to offer a simple digital tool enabling NetModule’s customers to integrate, configure, manage and monitor their devices autonomously. Thus, we conceived an easy to use and secure remote management platform named “Connectivity Suite”. We built up this platform using an IoT solution as it offers a connectivity technology that enables the management of routers with any web-enabled device.

Easy handling due to a modular design

Customers should be able to perform various tasks via the platform, such as checking the inventory, configuring and deploying new configurations or monitoring devices. To make using the platform as easy as possible, we established the different services as independent components. Thus, users can directly access the desired module via the intuitive user interface.

No entry for hackers

As an attack on a large number of routers can have devastating consequences, platform security was essential to NetModule. That's why we chose container technology, offering a high level of security: In the event of an attack, the hacker can only access the affected container, but not the others.

During the project phase, NetModule built up an internal team to further develop the platform in-house. We supported the new team in the starting phase and helped them to understand the architecture set-up.
